Our Values

By God's grace, we want to be a people who are ...

profoundly shaped by God's Word

As a community and as individuals, we seek to be shaped by the Scriptures in all aspects of our lives.   Led by his Spirit, we seek to understand the Bible correctly, eagerly seek its direction and live it out with wisdom, courage and joy.

Rom 12:1,2; 2 Tim 3:16,17; Psalm 119:97

expressing dependence on God in persevering prayer

Christ is the head of the church and without him we can do nothing.  We look to God's Spirit to direct and empower our lives and ministry and we seek to express radical and humble dependence on him through prayer and obedience.

John 15:5-8;  Eph 4:14-21

being faithful and transformed as disciples

The central call of our lives is to follow Jesus.  Our discipleship is characterised by conformity to his teaching rather than the world's, and continual ongoing transformation into his likeness and purposes.

Phil 2:12,13;  Luke 6:40;  Romans 8:29

  authentic in character and relationship

As God's people we are called to be distinctively Christlike in our being as well as our doing.  Through the work of God's Spirit we have been given all the resources we need for growth towards maturity and godliness.  We seek to love one another deeply and with integrity, following the example of Christ.

Gal 5:22,23; John 13:34,35; 2 Peter 1:3-9

integrated and inclusive, representing all God's people

We value diversity in our community life.  We seek to encourage one another to grow in understanding and respect for cultural difference and to develop structures which encourage growth toward maturity and unity for all in the community.

Eph 2:14-18;  Gal 3:26-29;  Rev 5:9,10

joyful servants, imprinted with grace and compassion

We recognise our own brokenness and the grace freely extended to us in the gospel.  We are servants in our relationship to God and to others.  We seek to be characterised by grace and compassion in our engagement with others, particularly the poor and vulnerable.

Micah 6:8;  Matt 9:36-38; 2 Cor 8:9

  generous stewards of God's gifts

We are called to live in dependence on God as faithful and wise stewards of all he gives us time, money, possessions, abilities.  In the light of God's goodness to us, and the needs of our world, we seek to be characterised by a generosity of spirit - sacrificial contributors rather than consumers.

2 Cor 5:14,15; 1 Cor 12:4-7; Luke 12:48

equipped to participate in God's mission

We live in times of great change and complexity.  As a community of faith we seek to be equipped for all aspects of our life and ministry in the world, faithfully living out the reign of God in the midst of the people, circumstances and issues where he has placed us.

Eph 4:11-17;  Eph 5:15-17;  Romans 15:14

committed to bringing people into God's Kingdom

We take seriously Christs great commission to make disciples of all nations.  In our community life, our lifestyles and our passion we seek to be missional and outwardly biased, structuring ourselves creatively and flexibly to reach out to our community and our world.

Matt 28:18-20; 1 Peter 3:15; 2 Cor 6:3
