GOVERNANCE BOARD 2009-10

All correspondence for the Governance Board can be sent to the Board Secretary.

Jim Madden - Secretary
I came to GWAC in 2002 with my wife Ruth after many years of being a nominal Christian and not attending any Church. I committed myself to the Lord after attending an Alpha course here and joined the Governance Board in November 2005. My other Church activities include: being part of the 8.00 am Service Leadership and Welcoming teams, leading a Small Group, a member of the Nurture and Growth Supporter team and a member of the AAA weekend organizing team. I feel privileged to bring my experience in the military, business and community to service on the Governance Board as I am committed to working to help GWAC achieve its mission in growing and nurturing the kingdom of God.

Andrew Canobi - Vicar's Warden
I am married to an exceptional woman Katherine and we are blessed with 4 wonderful children, Joshua, Matthew, Ethan and Grace. Our family has been attending GWAC since 2002 and are regular members of the 10.30 am congregation. My passion for GWAC and serving on the Governance Board stems from my belief that local churches are the hope of our world and that we have a great and exciting opportunity to see lives transformed through the amazing salvation found only in Jesus. As well as being a cricket tragic I love good food (including occasionally cooking it), playing guitar and dreaming of one day having a cave (garage).

Margaret Norris - Warden
Since Rob and I joined GWAC nearly 8 years ago, I have been involved in small groups and am currently a member of several of different groups. I am very keen to see people connect with, and be nurtured by, small groups. I have a passion for CRE teaching as a way of reaching as many children as possible with the good news that Jesus loves and cares for them all and currently teach several grade 5 & 6 classes. I also enjoy serving on the welcome and morning tea teams at the 10.30am services.

Ray Ternes
I have a passion for all things two-wheeled, footy, netball and generally anything that passes as a sport (soccer clearly does not). Between these important pursuits I manage to spend some time in the office where I am completing my articles year for a law firm. I have been at GWAC since 2002 and have found it a place that genuinely seeks to please God and a supportive Christian community.

Jay Ratnasingham (Treasurer)
I am married to Sharmini and have two teenage sons Joshua and Andrew. I migrated from Sri Lanka 23 years ago and have been attending GWAC and its parent churches for twenty years. I have assisted in the prayer ministry, unemployment groups, welcoming teams, morning tea, Sunday club and evangelism programmes.

My background for work is finance. Other interests are in sports, family, travel, and passion for people to come to a personal relationship with Jesus. I aim to be a good steward in bringing my finance and multicultural experience to the GWAC community.

Luke Haites
My wife Ruth and I have been coming to GWAC since we were married in 1996. During that time our two girls, Joanna and Simone have moved us from the evening congregation to the morning where we've had the pleasure of being part of family homegroups, playgroup and childrens programs. I'm passionate about seeing the body working together to bring all of us into maturity in Christ and to see the Kingdom reach out to a world that is struggling for purpose apart from Him.

Neridah Peirce
I joined our congregation in 2002. I am a regular member of the 8am congregation however I enjoy attending other services. I belong to a Small Group that, with attending BSF, has further contributed to my growth as a Christian. In recent years I have been involved with Alpha and Mustard.

This is my second year as a member of the Governance Board. I bring my experience as a teacher, college principal and member of other community groups to this new field of endeavour for me. I look forward to building on the experience gained last year as another way to serve the Lord in the growth of His kingdom.

Dan Miller
My wife Kyla and I have 3 young children and have lived in Glen Waverley most of our married life. We have been members of GWAC for the past 6 years and attend the 10:30am service as well as being part of a home group. I work in IT as an account manager and am a mad Geelong supporter, as well as following the Melbourne Storm, Manchester United and the All Blacks.
