Exodus 12 - Sacrifice

Our reading today depicts an event of immense significance, the Passover. It is tragic: the death of so many Egyptian sons. It is the sad consequence of God’s judgement on evil. God takes no pleasure in it–we know this from Lamentations 3:33 which says ‘God does not willingly bring affliction or grief to anyone’.

Did you notice, reading the passage, how little of this chapter was dedicated to recording the actual ‘event’ as such: just vv29-30, just two verses. The rest of the chapter gave detailed instructions for God’s people to commemorate this significant event. God wants His people to remember this event!

The Passover points towards Jesus’ death on the cross. Jesus’ death was a great penalty to pay, but won a tremendous victory for God: the salvation of His people.

Spend a few moments today praising God for the sacrifice of Jesus’ death on the cross.
