Exodus 22

The image of a holy person stood out to me today as I was reading this passage. There is a clear expectation from God that his people will follow these laws to be His Holy People. It made me wonder though, what would a holy person look like today?

When I think of a holy person I tend think person who is set above the people that they are to care for, someone who is perhaps judgmental and maybe even of a people that live separately from the other people. Now some of those perceptions come from growing up in the Catholic Church and how holy people are portrayed in movies, TV shows and in the media. I think that image and the associations with it need to be challenged.

When we look at the life of Jesus, whose life was holy, we see a person who cared for people. Jesus spread the message of Gods love and who also challenged the way people lived, but often in a way that was gentle. We are all called to be Gods people and to be a part of a life long journey to change into who he wants us to be. So, what does is mean for us to be a holy people today?

I think that we are called to live a different life to the people around us. When we live as Jesus desires we should be more loving and more understanding to the people around us, we should be more generous with our things.

So, what does it mean for you to be a holy person? Is there a chance for you today to show somebody else what it means to be a follower of Jesus?
